Dictionary.com defines ‘Capacity‘ as the maximum amount that something can contain. In the context of the human being, capacity is the ability to expand your power, abilities, and desire to increase your skills in a number of ways.
This year, I have done a lot of reflecting on my life as a whole. Oftentimes, I find myself digging through old pictures, my high school yearbooks and even personal journals I have written. In doing so, I sometimes have to pinch myself and tell myself how was I able to make it this far. I then suddenly realized that God is continuously putting me in places I would have never expected myself to be in. He is dropping things in my life to teach me something and to most importantly push me. Just two weeks ago, I met with up with someone I met on LinkedIn. Yes, we met on LinkedIn and decided to have a chat. As we were talking, she told me ” You are doing so much. How are you able to do it?” I instantly responded to her and said “God.” I realized that God has a plan for me but in order for me to achieve that plan I must not sit still. I must not limit myself to the things within my circle but I must reach for things that are way beyond my reach. Why? Because God is the God of all things. Nothing is impossible for him..NOTHING. He made us to live a fruitful and joyful life.. not to sit back and stay stagnant. We are not to remain comfortable with where we are! It is a disease to remain comfortable and not give ourselves to the opportunity to be challenged.
Taking control of your capacity is not something that happens overnight, it’s a process that takes time to understand and handle. The first step to increasing your capacity is moving your faith to a different level. You need to understand and believe that your future is in good hands a.k.a God’s hand. Although it is in his hands, it is also your job to make room for what God wants you to receive. It is your job to get rid of any doubt, small-minded and fearful mentality.
One thing I have noticed about myself is when opportunities fall into my lap I instantly have a sense of doubt and tell myself that no I cannot do this. After all, we are human right? (Yes, that’s the devil telling you that you are incapable of doing what is being placed in front of you). Then I have to remind myself and say “No Barbara yes you can do this. God has given you so many tasks before and you were able to surpass it because everything I needed he supplied.”
I remember during the week of my graduation as I sat in my room packing and placing my stoles on my graduation gown and decorating my cap…I began to cry. Yes, I cried. While I was crying Travis Greene- Made A Way was playing. I instantly told myself thank you God for giving me the strength I needed to do all these things. Without him, I couldn’t have done it.
I am here to tell you that if you want more..if you desire more.. if you desire that job..if you desire that house..if you desire whatever that is placed on your heart. YOU NEED TO DO MORE! You need to speak into it. Tell God..”give me the strength and the grace to go way beyond my reach.”
This means..stepping out of your comfort zone.. getting rid of old habits and changing your perspective and seeking God first! Stretch yourself beyond your normal abilities, powers, and skills. He did not create us to be too SMALL but rather too BIG. Before I let you go, I need you to read the Christian Warfare in Ephesians 6:10-18. Even though these verses speak against standing against the devil it very well applies to increase your capacity. Why? Because when you are in the process of experiencing a new level, the spirit of the enemy will try to put you down because it cannot withstand the new dimension you’re about to go to. These verses speak so much fire. LOL, I get so excited with this one because it legit tells you that you will be strengthened by the Lord powerful strength. It tells you to put the FULL ARMOR OF GOD and to pray without ceasing by staying alert and being in the holy spirit at all times.
I hope you enjoyed this post and I ask that you continue to push yourself no matter how hard it gets. I promise..well God promises..the life you desire is way closer than you think!
